Why John Boehner is Resigning
Last month, Republican John Boehner announced he would resign from his position as Speaker of the House. No one has left this position willingly since Thomas P. O'Neill according to the New York Times. Boehner told nearly no one of his plan before making the announcement. He made the announcement the same week that the pope was visiting the U.S. Boehner is tired of struggling to unite Congress on issues. Although he is Republican, there is a group in Congress that believe he is not conservative enough, this lack of support is another reason he is resigning. His decision to leave has prevented the government shut down that many were beginning to view as inevitable.
